Five Years of Photographing Financial Leadership: SIFMA at Wharton

For the fifth consecutive year, Scott Spitzer Photography documented the Securities Industry Institute (SII) at Penn’s Wharton School. This Philadelphia executive education photography project showcases a unique partnership between SIFMA and Wharton that has been developing the financial industry’s rising leaders for 75 years. The three-year executive development program brings high-potential professionals to Huntsman Hall each March for intensive leadership training.

More Than Conference Photography

SII’s curriculum is redesigned annually to reflect the ever-changing landscape of the securities industry. Participants learn from leading authorities on topics that develop both leadership skills and investment knowledge. The program’s mission is clear: equip each participant with practical, actionable information directly applicable to their current and future responsibilities.

For Scott, photographing SII offers more than just professional work. It’s an opportunity to learn about an industry far outside his usual expertise. “Even though I’m far from a financial expert, I love being in the sessions and learning about the field,” he notes. It’s one of the aspects of event photography that keeps the work engaging. Exposure to different industries and specialized knowledge makes every assignment an educational experience.

The Evolution of AI in Finance

One trend Scott has observed over five years of coverage is the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence discussions within the program. Early sessions focused on conceptual frameworks and theoretical applications. Recent years have shifted dramatically toward real-world implementation. Sessions now explore agentic AI and artificial general intelligence, reflecting how quickly the technology has moved from theory to practice in the financial sector.

This progression mirrors the broader transformation happening across industries. Documenting these sessions year after year provides a unique perspective on how quickly technological change is reshaping financial leadership and strategy.
