Army Corporal Kevin McCloskey was driving in a convoy in Afghanistan when his vehicle struck an IED. He lost both his legs and the vision in his right eye. He also suffered burns all over his body and a traumatic brain injury. The amazing organization, Homes for Our Troops, built Cpl McCloskey a new accessible home. It was an honor for Scott Spitzer Photography to document this ribbon cutting ceremony.
This was one of the most meaningful and longest assignments Scott Spitzer Photography has ever had! Two and a half years ago, Homes for Our Troops asked us to photograph the announcement ceremony. We captured the incredible VIP arrival of Cpl and Mrs. McCloskey, an emotional ceremony with dozens of troops, and the joyful groundbreaking ceremony.
When Homes for Our Troops finished the house this winter, we came back to document the results. Our photographers captured the ribbon cutting and key ceremony, the McCloskeys’ first steps into their new home, and the reception and tour of the house for all of the guests.
We felt so lucky to be able to lend our expertise to capture all of the key moments as this American hero begins the next chapter of his life. Thank you, Homes for Our Troops, for this opportunity, and WELCOME HOME, Cpl and Mrs. McCloskey!
